Is Globalisation a Good Phenomenon

Is Globalisation a Good Phenomenon

Today, there are many different views for globalization. Since the West’s level of
development and the origin of social welfare movements, globalization is thought to be of great
benefit to humanity because the West plays an important role in globalization. With the fact that
globalization is a benefit for humanity, it is not true assumptions that globalization originates only
from the West, and the most influential countries in globalization emerge from the same region.
Before assessing globalization, it is necessary to know what it means. Globalization, in its simplest
terms, is a process that we live with or without awareness every day. Let’s see one of the most
famous description of globalisation: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a
French tunnel, while in a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on
Scottish whisky, followed closely by Italian Paparazzi on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an
American doctor using Brazilian medicines.
Increasing international interaction is an approach where globalization is a great benefit for
humanity. In a globalizing world, international cohesion increases in parallel with the interaction.
Thanks to the concrete and abstract communication between the cultures brought about by
globalization, today a European can taste the food of Asian culture. This interaction reaches different
places not only with food, but also with cinema and literature, and even in terms of thought. As
McDonald’s represents Hollywood’s American culture, one should not think that American culture is
the only culture spreading to the environment. With all this, it should be considered that as
international interaction increases, peace between countries strengthens. The person who interacts
with the culture of the other country can interpret the actions, news, habits in that country. In this
situation, the nationalist thoughts of individuals diminish because the concept of “we” and “them”
created by nationalism can be learned and interpreted by global interacts. Hobsbawm, Eric says that
in the past there were clear national borders and national traditions that allows fewer countries to
contact each other. Now that we have become integrated with other traditions, increased contact
between people has brought tranquility and decreased conflict.
Due to the fact that globalization is not a machine and driven by people, the comments that
this process will always improve itself do not reflect the reality. Although the perception that
globalization is benefical today is more powerful, more precise interpretations can be made with the
help of the results of globalization years later. Until then, given the effects of globalization, there is
no doubt that globalization is beneficial for the time being.
